A WILD Wonderland
Mother Nature spared no gifts in this region, one marked by mountains, forests, lakes, canyons and ancient rock formations – the drama of the landscape ever shifting with the rising and setting of the sun. This place is heaven for outdoor adventurers: rock climbing, ziplining, hiking, kayaking, horseback riding and backcountry camping are plentiful.
The wilderness Daniel Boone ventured through has been tamed somewhat by time, but the craggy splendor can still be experienced in the caves and cliffs at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park, the sandstone arches of Natural Bridge and the wooded trails of six state parks.
Great Adventures Await
Appalachian arts, adrenaline-fueled adventures, coalmining history and country music heritage all converge here in the magnificent wilds of Kentucky, described as “trailing cloud-mist and yellow light leaping from crest to crest” by area native John Fox Jr. in his 1903 novel, The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come – inspiration for Kingdom Come State Park.
