Delicious dishes, fascinating stories
Kentucky State Parks are known as incredible places to enjoy the outdoors, soak up scenic vistas, relax in natural surroundings and hike, bike, climb, float, fish, paddle and play to your heart’s content. But there’s more to explore on your dinner plate, too.
State park restaurants serve up a bounty of home-style favorites celebrating the treasured ingredients, recipes and flavors of the bluegrass – many featured in dishes with fascinating stories.
You’ll learn how a tiny town in Western Kentucky was once the “Banana Capital of the World” as you bite into a luscious pudding layered with Nilla Wafers, sliced bananas and sweet whipped cream. You’ll learn the legend of the apple stack cake, originally made by wedding guests who each brought a layer to show their love for the new couple.
You’ll taste burgoo, Kentucky’s signature meat stew, and the iconic Hot Brown. You’ll dig into crispy fried fish, famous fried chicken, local farm cheeses and a tangy dip spiked with beer.
And you’ll see why Transparent Pie is such a clear favorite for dessert, prompting Augusta/Maysville native George Clooney to have them delivered to his movie sets.
