There is so much to discover when planning a trip to Maryland. Whether you enjoy boating and beaches, skiing in the mountains, taking in historic sites, or sampling some of the best seafood in the world, Maryland has something for you. I am excited to bring you the 2020 Destination Maryland guide, which is the best resource to make your visit to our state a memorable one.
Our history is one of the key things that makes Maryland unique. Follow in the footsteps of heroes like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, whose stories of bravery and sacrifice make Maryland the most powerful Underground Railroad storytelling destination in the world.
Plan a visit to Antietam National Battlefield, the site of one of the most dramatic battles of the Civil War. Tour Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, known for its pivotal role in the War of 1812.
Check out our vibrant arts and folk traditions, like the famous painted screens in Baltimore’s rowhouse windows or the exquisite craftsmanship of hand-carved decoys on display at the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury. Experience our many special events and festivals, like the yearly AFRAM Festival in Baltimore with its traditional and contemporary African-American sounds, or DelFest in Cumberland, which brings together the best bluegrass bands around. And in 2020, we are proud to be the home of the National Folk Festival in Salisbury.
You can make an entire vacation out of exploring Maryland’s unique foods such as Southern Maryland stuffed ham, Smith Island cake, and Baltimore’s famed pit beef. And how about our world-renowned seafood? Rockfish from the Bay, tuna and swordfish from the sea, Chesapeake oysters both farmed and wild, and of course, our famous steamed crabs.
