Hit the water at Red Willow Reservoir State Recreation Area in McCook. Get a taste of the Old West (and buy some souvenirs) at Nebraska’s largest Western gift store, Fort Cody Trading Post in North Platte, then explore Cody Park nearby. The park’s Wild West Memorial pays homage to Buffalo Bill. For more cowboy history, visit Boot Hill in Ogallala before browsing the Petrified Wood Gallery. The collection showcases ancient woods and fossils, Native American artifacts and artwork.

Take advantage of access to public hunting grounds and a peaceful overnight stay at Lakeview Lodge in Stratton.
