EXPERIENCE MORE BEYOND THE RALLY ROAR Situated between picturesque canyons, the town of Sturgis offers a rich military history, outdoor adventure, a unique Main Street and legendary events throughout the year. Sturgis is synonymous with motorcycles, known worldwide for the motorcycle rally that’s held annually the fi st full week of August. Shop along Main Street, then grab a bite at The Knuckle Saloon and Brewery, Loud American Roadhouse and other eateries. Uncover motorcycling history at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame. The curated collection is continuously changing. See over 80 cars at the Sturgis Car Museum, including rare Saabs from the GM Heritage Collection and the oldest Saab in the country. Journey back in military history at the Old Fort Meade Museum, through exhibits that honor the military men and women and pay tribute to the town’s founding fathers. The museum is located on the original Fort Meade grounds. Located at the southern entrance to Sturgis, Vanocker Canyon is a favorite cruise for locals. Wine enthusiasts enjoy tastings at Belle Joli Winery Sparkling House. Their sparkling wines are made from their vineyards near Belle Fourche. Boulder Canyon, at the northern edge of town, connects Sturgis to Deadwood. Stop along the way to play 18 holes of golf at Boulder Canyon Golf Club at Apple Springs. The mystical Bear Butte rises 4,426 feet above sea level north of town. Hike to the top from Bear Butte State Park for a view that covers three states. Long sacred to the Plains Indians, please respect the prayer bundles that are tied to trees and bushes along the trail and view them from a distance. Please note, pets are not allowed on the Summit Trail. Nearby Fort Meade Recreation Area has almost 7,000 acres of public land. Pets welcome. Camping is allowed at both the Alkali Creek Trailhead and Alkali Creek Horse Camp. Sturgis is home to legendary fun, including the Volksmarch, May 11, 2019; the Off-Road Rally, May 24 to 26, 2019; the Sturgis Camaro Rally, June 27 to 30, 2019; the AMA Sturgis Supermoto Race, mid- September; and the Sturgis Mustang Rally, Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, 2019.
