TAKE A HISTORIC TREK The George S. Mickelson Trail runs through the heart of the Black Hills, connecting Deadwood with Edgemont. Completed in 1998, the 109-mile trail follows a historic rail line. The crushed-stone pathway incorporates more than 100 converted railroad bridges and four rock tunnels, passing through national forest land and privatelyowned land. Please respect landowners. Gentle slopes beckon runners, bikers, hikers and horseback riders of all abilities. The 15 trailheads offer parking, self-sale trail pass stations, vault toilets and tables. Trail passes are required. Take a trail ride from High Country Guest Ranch Trail Rides near Hill City or Rockin’ R Trail Rides by Crazy Horse Memorial®. Local outfi ters, DeadWheels Bicycle Rentals in Deadwood and Rabbit Bicycles in Hill City, provide bike rentals and shuttle service. Lodging options along the trail ensure that you have adequate time to absorb this Black Hills jewel, including High Country Guest Ranch, Mickelson Trail Lodging and Newton Fork Ranch. Bicycle enthusiasts will gather for the 22nd annual Mickelson Trail Trek, Sept. 20 to 22, 2019. Riders of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. For runners, the Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon offers a point-to-point course on the historic trail, June 2, 2019. Purchase a day pass, $4, or an annual pass, $15. • Motor vehicles are prohibited. • Smoking is prohibited on or adjacent to the trail. • All pets must be leashed. • Discharging fiearms from or across the trail is prohibited. • The trail is closed from dusk to dawn. • Bicyclists must yield to pedestrians. Everyone must yield to horses. • Camping and campfies are prohibited on the trail. • Please note, cell service is limited in many areas.
