Come closer. That’s right. Peer 30 feet down a manhole to see the floor of a sinkhole – a natural disaster that helped created one of the most exciting exhibits of all at the National Corvette Museum.

Kentucky has a big, beautiful world underground, and we’re not afraid to show it off – whether by a virtual simulation of a mini cave collapse at the Corvette Cave-In exhibit’s Skydome Sinkhole Experience or a wild adventure involving free-climbing and crawling through passageways at the real thing: Mammoth Cave National Park.

From Lost River Cave (we found it!) and Hidden River Cave (we reveal it!) to the intriguingly named Outlaw Cave and the blinged-out Onyx Cave, there is much to explore below ground in Kentucky. Above ground, too, at Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo and Dinosaur World.

1.LOCAL CHEESES: Tasty farm-made cheeses – including white cheddar, American and Gouda – are shipped worldwide from producers here, but that doesn’t stop the locals from also feasting on them.

2.FARM-FRESH VEGGIES: Homegrown tomatoes, fresh corn and tender green beans – often slow cooked with a chunk of ham hock – saddle up nicely to that legendary pork you see.

3.PORK SHOULDER & CHOPS: You’ll smell the smoky aroma before the grill even enters your sight. 4.FRUIT COBBLER: Peach or blackberry, topped with homemade ice cream or not, a bubbly baked fruit cobbler provides a soul-satisfying ending to any Kentucky meal.

5.APPLE CIDER: On a hot day, pour it over ice. On a cold day, heat it up and sip away for a warmth you’ll feel to your core. Locally made apple cider is a great comfort drink, no matter the season.
