First Friday is a chance for art aficionados and visitors alike to stroll a downtown area, enjoy food and friends, people-watch, and peruse artwork. Experience the festivities at these must-hit monthly events. STATE COLLEGE A wave of culture spreads throughout downtown State College on First Friday evenings, when art enthusiasts gather to explore locally made works. Be sure to stop by arts and crafts studio The Makery to see art, mingle with makers, and enjoy light refreshments. WILLIAMSPORT Inspired by the book “100 Best Little Art Towns in America,” Williamsport’s First Fridays are a celebration of the culinary and visual arts. Galleries, goldsmiths and design stores comingle with musical performances and book signings along Fourth and Pine. PITTSBURGH Stroll between the 4800 and 5500 blocks of Penn Avenue at Pittsburgh’s First Friday gatherings, where you can take in everything from painting and sculpture to live demonstrations. From May through September, you can grab a bite to eat and a crafted souvenir at the Garfield Night Market on nearby North Pacific Avenue. LANCASTER Bring your voice, your excitement, and your wallet to Lancaster’s First Fridays, where unique boutiques and artisan studios play host to innovative exhibitions and special events that range from “ecstatic chant” to symphony orchestra. Lancaster’s Market Alley Shops hosts a fun affair on First Fridays with live music and local food vendors. SCRANTON There’s a painter’s palette worth of exhibits, performances, and showcases in downtown Scranton, where art ranges from photography to Korean calligraphy. YORK First Friday themes like Dads & Dudes, Tap into Spring, and Fashion Friday attract anywhere from 3,000 to 10,000 visitors to the cultural venues, restaurants, and shops in downtown York. BETHLEHEM South Bethlehem’s First Friday is a lively celebration of the area’s community, arts, and culture. Stroll from pop-up art galleries to live performances throughout the shops on Third and Fourth streets, while enjoying food and wine samples, and special deals. PHOENIXVILLE At Phoenixville’s First Friday events, children get their own crafts and activities at the Kid’s Fun Crawl; meanwhile, adults can enjoy main-stage bands, street performances, and works from local artisans.
