Glide past an abundance of wildlife, capture breathtaking views and quench your thirst for the snowy outing of a lifetime. With more than 2,500 miles of snowmobiling trails in Wyoming, there’s epic terrain waiting for you to explore. The state’s winter season extends from mid-December through early April, making it easy to plan more than one adventure. SNOWIES & SIERRA MADRES Wyoming is a renowned powder stash and lives up to its reputation as a snowmobile haven each winter with annual snowfall of 25 feet. Located just along the northern state border of Colorado and Wyoming, this destination’s forested woods and hundreds of miles of groomed trails make for a great weekend trip. YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind snowmobiling experience, this is it. See all the sights along the trails like geysers, waterfalls and wildlife with an authorized commercial guide. A new regulation allows four unguided groups of up to five snowmobilers into the park each day with special permits awarded annually through a lottery system at recreation.gov. CONTINENTAL DIVIDE The Continental Divide is perfect for snowmobilers looking to trailblaze on their own into challenging terrain or hop on with a guide. This trail system is the longest in the West, boasting 690 miles of groomed and 139 miles of ungroomed routes beginning in Lander and ending in Grand Teton National Park. WYOMING RANGE The Wyoming Range in the western part of the state is another coveted winter playground complete with deep blankets of snow. Get lost in hundreds of miles of both groomed and ungroomed trails reaching close to 10,000 feet in elevation with amazing views. Trailheads can be accessed from Pinedale, Big Piney, La Barge, Afton, Alpine and Kemmerer. NORTH/NORTHEAST WYOMING This section offers equally enticing terrain with a fair share of powder and exhilarating trails. The Bighorn Mountains have a convenient trail system divided into north and south sections, so multiple-day trips can easily be planned to cover all 342 miles of groomed trails or 49 miles of ungroomed trails. BLACK HILLS & CASPER MOUNTAIN Pine-blanketed mountains and 55 miles (plus the 295 miles of trails that extend into South Dakota’s Black Hills) of groomed trails make the Black Hills a must-ride. The centrally located Casper Mountain trail system offers trails with easy-to-follow directions and signage. Tour the area on 32 miles of groomed trails with snow depths up to three feet. UINTA RANGE There are about 80 miles of groomed trails on the north slope of the Uinta Mountains and along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway, which is nestled at Wyoming’s southwest corner near Evanston and closed to vehicular traffic in the winter months. For more than 40 years, avid snowmobilers have flocked to Jackson’s Snow King Mountain Resort to summit the mountain’s 1,500-foot vertical rise at the annual World Champion Snowmobile Hill Climb in March.
