Whether by foot or bike, four wheels or four hooves, the city has endless options for going wherever you want to be. Exploring the French Quarter and beyond Measuring less than a mile wide, the French Quarter is easily covered by foot. Should you prefer riding to walking, pedicab companies operate throughout the neighborhood, as well as in the Garden District, Downtown and Marigny. Mule-drawn carriages are another option for seeing the sights, and to see the Quarter from a totally different perspective, ride the Canal Street/Algiers Ferry to the charming neighborhood of Algiers Point, where a bicycle and walking path on the levee overlooks the river. Beyond the Garden District is New Orleans’ Uptown neighborhood, home to the Audubon Zoo and the dining and entertainment hubs of Oak and Maple Streets. All are easily reachable via rideshare services including Uber and Lyft, and by taxi or car. Another can’t-miss Garden District and Uptown attraction is Magazine Street, a six-mile-long shopping and dining paradise that is on the Number 11 bus route. City Park, New Orleans Museum of Art and Esplanade Ridge riches Museum-goers and urban adventurers will find much to love about New Orleans City Park, home to the New Orleans Museum of Art. Bike, drive or take a taxi beneath the oak tree canopies of Esplanade Avenue, or take the Canal Street streetcar to the park. Once there, you can rent kayaks, paddleboards, bikes and paddleboats to get around. Numerous tour operators will pick you up from your hotel for your plantation tour (many also offer swamp tour options). And whether you’re coming to town or headed home, you’ll find many rental car and limo companies to get you to and from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
