The city’s new farm-totable restaurant with traditional Southern flair features a seasonally changing menu based on the bounty available from its agricultural partners. Already gaining a reputation for its outstanding bourbon selection, it’s been named a Great Bourbon Bar of America.
2 DiFabio’s Casepela, Louisville
Homemade lasagna, manicotti, chicken piccata and nearly a dozen appetizers satisfy guests at this hometown favorite looking for authentic Italian fare. But leave room for the cheesecake. Made in-house like the restaurant’s other sweets, it comes in three flavors: Samoas cookie, three-layer cappuccino and Mandarin walnut with white chocolate.
3 Harbor Restaurant & Tavern, Somerset
Whether ending a perfect day on Lake Cumberland or making a special trip for lunch or dinner, don't miss the signature catfish or grouper at this gem at Lee's Ford Marina. You'll also find great views, a full bar and live music on summer weekends.
4 York Street Café, Newport
On the first floor of a circa-1880s Queen Anne building, this local favorite is known for its hearty “conversation boards” that are perfect for sharing — each with lots of color, texture and flavor. Décor is eccentric and delightfully kitschy. Gallery shows and live music are offered.
5 Beaumont Inn, Harrodsburg
Recipient of a James Beard America’s Classic award, the inn has three restaurants under one gracious roof: the linen-draped Main Dining Room, the Old Owl Tavern bar and grill and the cozy Owl’s Nest. Dine on classic Kentucky fare and specialties, including yellow-legged fried chicken, country ham, corn pudding and General Robert E. Lee orange-lemon cake — dishes that once wowed pioneering food critic Duncan Hines.
6 Billy Ray’s Restaurant, Prestonsburg
Locals love the friendly feel and comfort-food cooking at this familystyle restaurant that proclaims to be home of the “Original Pool Room Hamburger,” along with scratchmade chicken and dumplings, turkey and dressing, meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

7 Harland Sanders Café and Museum, Corbin
Remember those secret 11 herbs and spices? They were developed by the Colonel right here in the 1940s. Order some fried chicken, take a selfie with “Col. Sanders” and see KFC memorabilia. And go ahead and lick your fingers; it’s expected.
8 The Miller House Restaurant, Owensboro
