Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area

2016-10-22 01:04:40

Named for the awesome, kaleidoscopic colors of the natural landscape, this recreation area comprises more than 201,000 acres of scenic land surrounding Flaming Gorge Reservoir. It is truly a land of living color, with many rock formations — sculpted through the centuries by wind and water — changing colors and perspective with the varying sunlight. Fed by the waters of the Green River, the reservoir boasts approximately 375 miles of shoreline, ranging from low flats to cliffs more than 1,500 feet high. FLAMING GORGE CHECKLIST Discover why the reservoir is nationally known as a fishing hot spot, with quality trout fishing year-round. A record-setting 52-pounder was wrangled here in 2013. Rent a boat and cruise around the 91-mile-long reservoir. Local marinas offer everything from ski boats to houseboats. Hike or snowshoe along miles of scenic trails. Hire a guide or outfitter for fishing, rafting, kayaking or other adventures. Relax and stay awhile! Accommodations range from luxury lodges and cabins to campgrounds and RV parks.
