While ice skating at McCormick Tribune Ice Rink or the Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon, you can glide across the ice as you take in the surrounding city skyline. Warm up afterwards with a rinkside hot chocolate from Park Café. Try snowshoeing at the lakefront Northerly Island. The only requirements are at least three inches of fallen snow and a nominal equipment rental fee. Nearby, go for a thrill ride down the Soldier Field Sledding Hill. Visit the Holiday Flower Shows at the Lincoln Park Conservatory and Garfield Park Conservatory, where you can make your way through fir trees, colorful poinsettias, and sparkling lights within the warmth of the balmy greenhouses. In late January, Chicago Restaurant Week kicks off with First Bites Bash, where you can sample food and drinks from dozens of the city’s top chefs and mixologists. Also catch the Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade, which welcomes the Year of the Rat with colorful floats and traditional lion dances. February heralds the return of the annual Chicago Theatre Week, when you can snag some of the hottest tickets in town at discounted prices. And check out the Chicago Auto Show, the longest-running car show in the U.S., to see everything from classic Aston Martins to futuristic concept cars.
