Pure joy awaits this winter in DC, where you can delight in holiday displays, indulge at local food halls and markets and ice skate to your heart’s content. For complete event listings, visit washington.org. HOLIDAY DISPLAYS NATIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE America’s grandest holiday symbol celebrates its 100th lighting in 2022. After the late November/early December lighting ceremony, the tree is aglow nightly through Jan. 1. GEORGETOWN GLOW From mid-November through early January, DC’s most historic neighborhood sparkles with outdoor light installations that serve as dazzling street decorations. ENCHANT AT NATIONALS PARK Featuring a light maze, a holiday market and colorful characters (including Santa), Enchant has become a holiday tradition in the District. LIGHT YARDS Capitol Riverfront’s festive light installation makes for an illuminated nighttime stroll through the scenic neighborhood. MOSEY TO THE MARKET UNION MARKET The Union Market District’s crown jewel has plenty of gift options in addition to its more than 35 food stalls and rooftop bar. Nearby contemporary market La Cosecha celebrates Latin American heritage. DOWNTOWN HOLIDAY MARKET The free bazaar offers dozens of vendors, locally roasted coffee, live music, mini-doughnuts and the warmest of holiday vibes (even though it’s outdoors). CITYCENTERDC Shop at spots like Jo Malone London or Chanel and enjoy dinner and drinks at the acclaimed Centrolina. During the holiday season, gaze at the 75-foot Christmas tree and magical lights along Palmer Alley. WESTERN MARKET Foodies should flock to this dining hall that dishes out authentic Venezuelan cuisine at Arepa Zone, Italian subs from Capo Deli and Guatemalan street food via Nim Ali. LACE UP THE SKATES WASHINGTON HARBOUR The 11,800-square-foot riverside marvel in Georgetown is usually open from mid-November through March. NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART SCULPTURE GARDEN The cozy location surrounded by magnificent sculptures is an option for ice skating on the National Mall. Open from mid-November through mid-March. CANAL PARK Designed in a figure eight, the seasonal attraction in Capitol Riverfront is open from mid-November through February. THE WHARF Head to the riverside rink at Transit Pier between mid-December and February for a majestic scene, and then warm up by the outdoor firepit.
