SPRING
Break for Family Fun, Blooming Gardens & History Tours

Williamsburg comes alive with pleasant, mild daytime temperatures ranging from the 50s in early March to the low 70s by May.

Spring brings a burst of color to the gardens of Colonial Williamsburg, making it an ideal time to explore the iconic living history attraction. Visit during Historic Garden Week, typically in late April, to wander the gardens in full bloom and tour private historic homes filled with floral arrangements. Admire more flowers at the nearby Williamsburg Botanical Garden.

For more ways to enjoy the outdoors, go birding at York River State Park, pedal the scenic Virginia Capital Trail, or take a peaceful hike along Island Loop Drive on historic Jamestown Island. For exhilarating fun, take to the treetops at Go Ape Zipline & Adventure Park – perfect for a family spring break.

SUMMER

Summer brings plenty of sunshine with highs in the 80s and 90s – perfect for festive, fun-filled days.

Independence Day celebrations will be even more epic during the year of America’s 250th anniversary. Don’t miss  at Colonial Williamsburg, featuring reenactments, patriotic ceremonies, live demos, and a spectacular fireworks display.

Celebrate the spirit of Independence Day all summer long at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, where fascinating exhibits, high-tech experiences, and live demonstrations bring the fight for freedom to life. At Yorktown Battlefield Colonial National Historic Park, hop on a Yorktown & Company Replica Stanley Steamer Wagon Tour for a narrated ride through the battlefield where the U.S. victory secured independence.

Beat the heat in the pools and rivers of Water Country USA. Or embrace the sunshine at Yorktown Beach, where accessible paths and beach mats welcome everyone to the sandy shore. Lounge on the beach, cast a line, or go swimming in the calm waters. More ways to make a splash: Rent a kayak, canoe, or pedal boat to explore the waters of Waller Mill Park, or set sail with  to enjoy stunning views of the York River.

For autumn exhilaration, check out the record-breaking roller coasters of Busch Gardens® Williamsburg, or admire fall colors on a leisurely drive or bike ride along the Colonial Parkway.

WINTER
Shopping, Cozy Historic Taverns & Holiday Fun

Chilly days and crisp nights define winter in Williamsburg, where temperatures range from the 20s to 50s and it sometimes snows.

Step into a wonderland of art at the Muscarelle Museum of Art and the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg, featuring folk art and decorative art. Museum gift shops are full of unique finds perfect for holiday gift lists. For more shopping hot spots, visit Merchants Square for a collection of boutiques and specialty shops, or browse local Christmas markets for handcrafted treasures. The area’s outlet malls and antique malls also promise great finds.

While at Merchants Square, go ice skating at the Liberty Ice Pavilion. Keep the winter vibes coming at historic taverns, where you can indulge in a hearty multi-course tavern dining experience. Or, warm up with a glass of red wine at the Williamsburg Winery Merchants Square Wine Bar. For family-friendly entertainment, see a show at the Kimball Theatre.

A highlight of the season is Colonial Williamsburg’s Grand Illumination, held on three Saturdays in December. The Historic Area is dressed up with holiday decorations, candles flicker in the windows, music fills the streets, and fireworks light up the night sky.
