□ ELK: At the Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette, you just might see one of these majestic creatures dining on alfalfa, timothy, clover, and winter wheat—all planted near the center to attract them. □ WOLVES: Explore the woodlands at Wolf Sanctuary of PA in Lititz, home to rescued wolves that roam the 80-acre property. Reserve your spot on a guided tour during the day, or attend the monthly Full Moon Fundraiser to enjoy a bonfire, live entertainment, and guided nighttime tours amid the wolves’ howling. □ HAWKS: Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton is “billed” as the oldest and largest member-supported raptor conservation association in the world. The scientific research center and sanctuary is one of the best places in the northeastern U.S. to view the annual autumn hawk migration. □ WHITE-TAILED DEER: Cruise down the spectacular 75-mile driving trail traversing Bucktail State Park between Emporium and Lock Haven, and keep a lookout for white-tailed deer. Fall offers an especially scenic experience, when the season change turns leaves the colors of golden yellow, orange, and red. □ RAVENS: Known for being one of the world’s smartest birds, ravens are the centerpiece species at Ravensburg State Park in Jersey Shore. Look for them roosting on the rock ledges at the southern end of the park. □ BEAVERS: These shy, ingenious forest residents can be found in the waters of Hills Creek Lake at Hills Creek State Park in Wellsboro. □ BALD EAGLES: The iconic national bird of the U.S. can be found at Moraine State Park in Portersville and Bald Eagle State Park in Howard—look toward the banks of the Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir. They can be found in the spring, summer, and fall months. At Moraine State Park, look for their massive nests along the Lake Arthur waterfront. □ FIREFLIES: Discover some of these magical, fairy-like creatures during the annual Pennsylvania Firefly Festival, held the last weekend of June in Tionesta. Learn about more than 15 firefly species at this “interpretive campout,” where the stars of the show come out at night.
