IN SAN FRANCISCO It’s hard to pick just a few new things to see, do and eat in San Francisco. Nevertheless, we’ll try. Be sure to keep in touch with us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for the latest. Here’s what’s new and different for 2020. 1 This year, San Francisco will commemorate the arrival of some of its most famous residents: the sea lions of PIER 39. These boisterous animals first began hauling out at the PIER following the Loma Prieta earthquake. Now, some 30 years later, visitors will be able to participate in educational and creative activities to celebrate our favorite flippered friends. 2 It’s going to be a great year for golf in San Francisco. TPC Harding Park near San Francisco’s Lake Merced will host the 2020 PGA Championship, May 11-17. This will be the first time a PGA Championship will be held in San Francisco, and only the second time a municipal course will host the competition. Tickets are expected to sell quickly. 3 San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2020 with a nearly year-long series of celebrations. Home to museums, monuments and protected wildlife, and host to some of San Francisco’s most treasured annual events, the 1,000-plus acre Golden Gate Park stretches from the legendary Haight-Ashbury neighborhood to the Pacific Ocean. 4 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of San Francisco Pride. Long considered to be the epicenter of LGBTQ culture and the modern fight for equality, San Francisco will be pulling out all the stops for this year’s celebrations. Expect plenty of revelry during Pride Month in June, as well as during LGBT History Month in October. 5 San Francisco’s creative culture is second-tonone. The city is full of arts institutions with global reputations. This year, the Asian Art Museum will cut the ribbon on a 13,000-square-foot expansion, creating more space for its prized collection of artifacts that spans 6,000 years of history.
