A DRAMATIC $100 MILLION expansion and renovation to the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center nearly doubled its new 300,000-square-feet footprint. Improvements include new concourse and ticketing areas, state-of-the-art meeting rooms, an onsite kitchen and catering facility, stunning glasswalled lobbies, a boat dock and public art.

The Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences recently renovated its entire Juliet Art Museum, adding an interactive art space for children and an art studio for hands-on fun. In its Caperton Planetarium and Theater, a new 8K projection system screens 3-D films that take the audience to infinity and beyond.

Shawnee Sports Complex is a new $18 million venue featuring six turf and 11 grass rectangular fields for soccer, lacrosse, football and rugby, plus four new turf baseball fields, a renovated lodge, Olympic-size pool and outdoor basketball courts.

Mountain State Distillery opened downtown in March 2019, offering walk-in sales of its inaugural whiskey, Southern Blend, a bourbon mash with corn, wheat and barley.

Several new kids on the restaurant block are ready to serve you.

From the owners of the popular Charleston Bread Company, Ristorante Abruzzi, located in Appalachian Power Park, serves up made-from-scratch pasta and breads, plus house-made authentic Italian dishes. The East End Pub is just a short walk from the beautiful State Capitol Complex. Enjoy traditional pub fare, including burgers, sandwiches and appetizers, or try the restaurant’s signature East End eggrolls.

Downtown on Quarrier Street, Melange Café is a coffee shop that blends food cultures and tasteful twists to coffee drinks, baked treats, street tacos and burrito bowls.

Nawab Fine Indian Cuisine uses high-quality, wholesome ingredients and house-toasted spices to craft dishes exploding with flavor. Locals rave about the super budget-friendly lunch buffet.
