Welcome to Arizona! No matter where your journey started, I am honored to join our world-class hospitality and tourism industry in welcoming you to the Grand Canyon State. Tens of millions of visitors each year choose Arizona as the destination for their vacations, exploring our vast state and national parks, enjoying unique cultural and dining experiences and relaxing at our spectacular resorts. There really is something for everyone. For me, it’s hiking my favorite trails such as the West Fork in Sedona, kayaking the Blue Ridge Reservoir near Payson or even just driving around Phoenix, surrounded by Camelback Mountain and Four Peaks perched on the eastern Valley skyline. Regardless of the part of the state I’m in, I am constantly reminded of how lucky we are to not only live in this special place, but to get to share it with our visitors. I carry this appreciation with me during my travels as Governor because I want the whole world to experience what we get to experience every single day. We’re proud to be a top-choice vacation destination that offers opportunities for all — visitors and residents alike — to create memories that will last a lifetime. Enjoy your visit! KATIE HOBBS Governor, State of Arizona Hello! On behalf of our entire tourism and hospitality industry, we’re so glad you’re joining us here in Arizona. From the wonder of Grand Canyon National Park to the luxury resorts of the metropolitan Phoenix area to the culinary mastery of Southern Arizona — and so much more in between — we can’t wait to share it all with you! An ideal place to start your exploration of the Grand Canyon State is right here, with our Official State Travel Guide, which is designed to help stir your curiosity and guide your adventures. Journey to Tribal Lands begins on page 16 and connects visitors to the cultural history of what is now Arizona, providing an insider’s guide to visiting the communities who have lived in reciprocity with canyonlands and river valleys since time immemorial. These cultures still thrive today, which makes now an exciting time to hire an American Indian guide to experience these spectacular places. For both Arizonans and visitors, food is central to how we share time together, welcome travelers and even celebrate accomplishments and holidays. Let your curiosity lead you to Tamale Tradition on page 38 to learn about the rich history and amazing flavors of this staple of Mexican culture and favorite Christmas treat. Fortunately in Arizona, they’re available year-round! Your eyes aren’t deceiving you — yes there’s fluffy snow, lush pine tree forests and spectacular outdoor recreation opportunities during the colder months in Arizona. Winter Wonders on page 57 gives just a quick look at a few of Northern Arizona’s favorite ski and snowboarding areas. Make sure to check the adjacent page for where to get your hands around a cup of hot specialty coffee before heading out for the day! Wherever your journeys across our beautiful state may take you, we welcome you to Arizona and hope you’re exhilarated by what you discover. Enjoy! LISA URIAS Director, Arizona Office of Tourism
