Maryland has often been called “America in Miniature,” and I want to encourage you to take time and explore our fve regions, with unparalleled landscapes, unique attractions, historical sites, world-class restaurants, and events and activities for people of all ages.
You can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and sledding in the Western Maryland mountains, and sailing and swimming on our famed Eastern Shore and the Chesapeake Bay. Learn more about Maryland’s role in our nation’s history through numerous historical attractions and our Civil War Trails, which stretch across our state down into Southern Maryland. Experience city life at its best with a walk along our beautiful Inner Harbor in Baltimore, and take in a concert or check out an art show in our vibrant Capital Region.
Seafood lovers will be right at home in Maryland, with our famous Chesapeake Bay blue crabs, oysters and rockfi sh. I encourage you to sample our other culinary traditions, like stuffed ham from St. Mary’s County, a snowball or pit-beef sandwich in the Baltimore region, or our official state dessert, Smith Island cake. Maryland also boasts numerous worldclass wineries and distilleries, and has a thriving craft beer industry, including our newest attraction—the Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House, which is the company’s first brewing operation the U.S. since the 1950s.
When you visit, be sure to stop by one of our ten Welcome Centers around the state. Our knowledgeable and helpful travel counselors can make sure you get the most out of your Maryland vacation. They can direct you to the perfect adventure, such as one of our 18 Scenic Byways, sights along the Underground Railroad, and our new Crab & Oyster Trail, with more than 100 seafood destinations from which to choose.
