Host a high-impact, cutting-edge meeting at the LEED Platinum-certified Walter E. Washington Convention Center (WEWCC), a 2.3-million-square-foot space in the heart of downtown DC.
The ultra-modern convention center features soaring staircases, towering glass walls and a public art collection that is the largest of its kind in the city outside of a museum. The 130+ pieces by 93 different artists, both local and international, span sculpture, photography and paintings. A multiphase interior design upgrade enhanced the public lounge areas with new seating and furniture that allows for more networking.
A digital signage network featuring over 200 displays and 12 LED video walls is one of the network’s numerous technological features. Free Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the building to enhance your on-the-go experience. A virtual reality component that uses 360-degree and 3D imagery allows you to preview event space before booking.
The convention center is continually enhancing its facilities to provide an exceptional experience for all visitors. A comprehensive restroom renovation is underway, featuring top-to-bottom upgrades that incorporate water-efficient fixtures and sustainable design elements. Throughout the building, new carpeting is being installed to refresh and modernize the space. Additionally, the center recently completed a multi-year roof replacement project.
Aramark’s Chef’s Experience creates custom menus tailored for all clients. From farm to fork, the catering staff provides healthy and high-quality dishes for both intimate meetings and thousands of conference attendees, incorporating festive flavors while catering to dietary restrictions. Aside from catering, attendees can experience local flavors by dining at Ben’s Chili Bowl. Renowned for its famous “half-smoke” chili dog, the city landmark began in 1958 on DC’s celebrated U Street NW.
SUSTAINABILITY
As a leader in environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives, the LEED Platinum-certified convention center implements a color-coded recycling and waste minimization program, as well as water efficiency, green product purchasing and more. All paper products are made from 100 percent recycled fiber, ECOLOGO Certified and compostable. The building boasts a long list of energy-saving features, including low-emission glass and computerized HVAC systems. Partnerships with numerous local sustainable businesses, including DC Central Kitchen, Capital Area Food Bank and the District of Columbia Department of Public Works, work together to recycle pallets left by decorators. The center is Metro-accessible (Green and Yellow lines) with a dedicated Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center stop, immediately walkable to neighborhood restaurants, downtown museums and nightlife, as well as the National Mall.
HEALTH & SAFETY FIRST
The convention center demonstrates a continued commitment to safety protocols and thorough cleaning measures. It’s the first convention center in the world to earn the WELL Health-Safety Rating (2022) and the first in the northeast U.S. to achieve the GBAC STAR accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council. It was also the first center in the United States to implement BIOPROTECT™ by SurfaceGuard, a NASA-developed technology designed to kill germs.
