WINTER ADVENTURE

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are an invigorating way to enjoy the crisp air and glittering white beauty of a fresh snowfall. Trails are ready for all skill levels, with favorite spots at several state parks, national wildlife refuges, Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site, along Greenway at Lincoln Park in Grand Forks or at Riverwood Golf Course in Bismarck. Check for rental availability. For a faster adventure explore North Dakota’s 2,800 miles of snowmobiling trails.

There are 18 groomed trails that open in December, pending snow. Enjoy downhill skiing and snowboarding at North Dakota’s ski areas, each featuring 9 to 18 runs and cozy lodges — available at Bottineau Winter Park Bottineau, Frost Fire Park near Walhalla, Huff Hills near Mandan and Thrill Hills at Fort Ransom.

ICE FISHING

When our rivers and lakes freeze, it’s time to go ice FIshing! Walleye, perch and northern pike don’t hibernate, and our season doesn’t close. Some of our most popular spots are Devils Lake, Icelandic State Park, Lake Metigoshe State Park, Lake Sakakawea and Lake Audubon.
