WESTERN MARYLAND
Come to Maryland’s mountainside for year-round outdoor fun. Wade in Deep Creek Lake, where you can also boat and fish during the summer months, and ice-fish during the winter. Nearby at Wisp Resort, adrenaline junkies will love the sloping terrain parks, perfect for skiing and snowboarding. The resort is also home to delicious dining, shopping and upscale accommodations. During fall, marvel at the glowing red and amber tones of the fall foliage, celebrated annually in October at the five-day Autumn Glory Festival in Oakland.
CAPITAL REGION
Come to the heart of the state for varied experiences, from thrilling to relaxing. Ride the roaring rides at Six Flags America—including the new WONDER WOMANTM Lasso of Truth: Soaring Swing Adventure that hurtles riders into the sky. Stroll along the C&O Canal, a 184.5-mile scenic path perfect for hiking, biking and taking in nature. Do it all from a central base in one of the towns near Washington, D.C., such as National Harbor, Silver Spring and Bethesda.
CENTRAL MARYLAND
Discover the bayside city of Annapolis and stride along the town dock watching sailboats breezing by. Visit Baltimore for a cosmopolitan city break, with its art museums, the National Aquarium and the home of “The National Anthem,” Fort McHenry. Plan your visit around major Baltimore events such as Light City, the world’s first large-scale light festival with luminescent interactive shows and projections, and Fleet Week and Air Show, a showcase of U.S. vessels in the Inner Harbor, Fells Point and Locust Point. Then venture out of the city to discover charming towns like Ellicott City and Havre de Grace where you can eat like a local and relax in authentic Maryland style.
SOUTHERN MARYLAND
Calling all outdoors lovers—Southern Maryland is sprawling with lush green hills housing historic sites like St. Mary’s City, the John Wilkes Booth Trail and stately lighthouses. Indulge your sweet tooth by taking a ferry ride to Smith Island to sample the state’s dessert, Smith Island Cake. Landlubbers can take in a scenic ocean view at Assateague State Park, Maryland’s only oceanfront park where coastal views are complemented by roaming wild horses. For a classic family vacation, head to Ocean City and stroll the boardwalk, stopping for traditional eats such as Thrasher’s fries, steamed Maryland Blue Crab and fresh, meaty oysters.
