Looking for a rejuvenating getaway with a twist? Arizona offers lots of unique ways to take a break and unplug from the hustle of everyday life. Check out these relaxing retreats found across the state that offer everything from eco-friendly glamping in the woods to the perks of getting pampered at a historic ranch resort. AT A LANDSCAPE HOTEL Ambiente, opening December 2020, is the first-ever landscape hotel in North America. Designed to blend in with the mystical red rocks of Sedona, the hotel is made up of 40 cube-shaped guest atriums that are elevated above the ground and feature floor-to-ceiling tinted glass. Ambiente has been designed with a deep respect for the environment and a focus on organic architecture. ON A FARM You’ll find Aravaipa Farms Orchard and Inn nestled near the spectacular Aravaipa Canyon in Winkelman. A nature lover’s dream, Aravaipa is known as one of the best bird-watching areas in the country (you’ll have a front-row seat from your patio). The quaint country inn offers farm-to-table dining Wednesday through Saturday, with menus that change daily depending on the local harvest. UNDER THE STARS If glamping is more your style, head to the safari-inspired Under Canvas Grand Canyon in Valle, located just 25 minutes from the Grand Canyon National Park’s South Rim. Lavishly outfitted tents are spread across 160 acres of forestland, with dining offered in a chic restaurant housed within the lobby tent. An on-site Guest Experience Coordinator can help plan outdoor adventures. IN A HOGAN Get off the grid and escape to a log-and-earthen hogan (a traditional Navajo dwelling) at Shash Diné Eco-Retreat and Glamping B&B, located on a working ranch on the Navajo Nation 12 miles south of Page. Book The Navajo Experience, a three-night stay that includes a mutton dinner accompanied by storytelling and an early-morning photo excursion. Restored sheepherder wagons and lantern-lit tents are also lodging options. IN A HISTORIC HOTEL Pass through the storied gates of Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort and you’ll be greeted by colorful gardens and bubbling fountains. You’ll be in good company at one of Tucson’s oldest guest ranches, which has hosted famed celebrities like Clark Gable and Howard Hughes. Stay in the Tracy-Hepburn Casita Grande, once a secret hideaway for the legendary stars. AWAY FROM IT ALL The historic Rancho de la Osa in Sasabe is set high in the Sonoran Desert, secluded along the Mexican border. Surrounded by the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge, take a scenic horseback ride along trails once used by Pancho Villa, as well as several U.S. presidents. In the evening, kick back by the pool and be dazzled by the impossibly star-studded sky.
