TIME ZONE Arizona is in the Mountain Standard time zone. With the exception of the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona, the state does not observe daylight savings time. AMERICAN INDIAN LANDS The 22 American Indian communities in Arizona offer a multitude of recreational and cultural attractions, casinos and scenery that make their tribal lands—covering about 25% of the state—highly sought-after destinations and vacation spots. Most travelers flying into Arizona will find themselves at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)—named the country’s best large airport in 2019 by The Wall Street Journal—which is the largest airport in the state, serving more than 46 million total passengers in 2019. Tucson International Airport (TUS) serves more than 3.6 million passengers annually via eight airlines that offer more than 50 departures daily to 19 nonstop destinations. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA) hosts three airlines offering nonstop service to more than 45 destinations. Grand Canyon National Park Airport (GCN), located 7 miles from the South Rim, offers limited service. Yuma International Airport (YUM) provides service to Phoenix and Dallas-Fort Worth via American Airlines. Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG) offers service to Phoenix and Dallas/Fort Worth via American Airlines. Prescott Regional Airport (PRC) offers nonstop service to Denver and Los Angeles via United Airlines. For airline and flight information, contact each airport individually. SHUTTLE SERVICE No matter where your destination is in Arizona, ground transportation is easily accessible. Visit the websites of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Tucson International Airport and Phoenix- Mesa Gateway Airport for companies currently offering shuttle service between airports and cities throughout the state. CAR RENTAL National car rental companies offer service at both the Phoenix and Tucson airports. At Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, shuttles ferry passengers to a separate, state-ofthe- art car rental complex, with extension of the PHX Sky Train coming in 2022. LOCAL BUS & LIGHT RAIL In the greater Phoenix area, Valley Metro Rail provides speedy rail service from Central Phoenix, through downtown Phoenix and Tempe’s Arizona State University campus and into Mesa. The convenient PHX Sky Train connection delivers riders right to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Valley Metro buses provide public transportation throughout the entire greater Phoenix area. In Metro Tucson, Sun Tran buses have transit centers located at major destinations throughout the city, and the Sun Link is a 3.9-mile streetcar route connecting five distinct districts. RAILROAD & INTERCITY BUS With stops in the major metropolitan areas, as well as in many other destinations around the state, trains and buses are viable options for traveling around The Grand Canyon State. Amtrak offers two routes: Southwest Chief route through Flagstaff and Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle route through Tucson. Greyhound offers intercity routes, with stations throughout the state. The Arizona Office of Tourism is the first state office of tourism to earn the Certified Autism Center (CAC) designation from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). Mesa earned the designation of the country’s first Autism Certified City, and Go Lake Havasu is also a Certified Autism Center, with a staff trained to recognize and assist visitors on the autism spectrum.
