THE MUSIC The Anthem The acoustically optimized, 6,000-person-capacity concert hall is situated in the vibrant Wharf district and represents the cutting edge of DC concert experiences. 9:30 Club Historic and always hip, V Street’s destination venue attracts some of the most exciting acts in music and remains one of the best places in the country to enjoy a concert. Echostage If you like the sound of bass booming, see a show here. Echostage is a dance mecca where EDM acts regularly roll through and attract partygoers from all over the region. Black Cat A haven for indie and alternative acts, Black Cat is a 14th Street institution. Make sure to stop by The Red Room Bar, which features arcade games and a lounge area. The Howard Theatre Opened in 1910 and renovated from 2010-12, the Shaw neighborhood staple hosts musical acts of all stripes, including emerging and established artists. THE MURALS Wave Mural 3510 O Street NW Nestled a few blocks from M Street in historic Georgetown, this iconic mural was created to replicate the mid-1800s Japanese print, The Great Wave Off Kanagawa by Hokusai. The Resurrection 2001 11th Street NW Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane and Billie Holliday are all part of a musical masterpiece from Aniekan Udofia. Alma Indigena 1564 Wisconsin Avenue NW Artist Victor Quinonez designed this dedication to the photography of Diego Huerta and the people of western Mexican state Jalisco. Ketanji Brown Jackson Mural 14th & S Streets NW The first Black woman appointed to the Supreme Court is beautifully honored in this colorful mural that also features Constance Baker Motley. Marvin Gaye Mural S Street NW Udofia’s stunning depiction of the legendary singer, a DC native, is a signature of the Shaw neighborhood. THE DANCES & PERFORMANCES Step Afrika! Get on your feet for a percussive symphony! The first professional company dedicated to the stepping tradition calls DC home. Dance Place The local institution hosts performances by artists and companies in the DC area as well as youth and adult dance classes. Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company Known for its brave and dynamic productions, Woolly Mammoth stages plays from a breathtakingly wide array of perspectives. The Washington Ballet Artistic Director Julie Kent leads a diverse troupe of world-class dancers. The company performs at theaters all over the DC area.
