Located midway between San Francisco and Oakland, this manmade island was built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1936. The Treasure Island Museum hosts free exhibits on this history. Nearby is Clipper Cove, a perfect spot for a beach picnic. (Pro tip: Fill your basket at the Ferry Building before shipping out on the short ferry ride). Get out on the water at Treasure Island Sailing Center, which offers adult and youth sailing lessons. Want to take home a treasure of your own? Held the last weekend of every month, TreasureFest showcases more than 400 Bay Area vendors selling handmade wares, antiques and vintage duds. For the best views, meander down the Avenue of Palms and find a place to spread out on the Great Lawn.

EAT & DRINK

Chow on fish and chips, cheeseburgers and tacos at Mersea, a unique restaurant and bar housed in shipping containers. Revel in the romantic atmosphere of Aracely Cafe while savoring imaginative dishes like spring mix ceviche and farro verde risotto. Sip around the island at Treasure Island Wines, Woods Island Club, Gold Bar Distillery and Treecraft Distillery, one of only two certified LGBTQ-owned distilleries in the country. Always call ahead, as most Treasure Island businesses operate on a limited basis.
