In addition to the wild, scenic countryside that draws people to Wyoming, our state features small- and big-game hunting and vast herds of wildlife. Nearly every species of North American big game exists in large numbers within the state, including elk, moose, deer, pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep and mountain goat. It’s no surprise that hunting is a way of life for residents and locals alike. This lifestyle helps with the management of Wyoming’s incredible wildlife resources. The money hunters and anglers spend through the purchase of licenses and outdoor products goes toward protecting the health of herds and the lands they need to thrive. Plus, nutritious and natural protein from wild game is the ultimate in locally sourced food. When Wyoming locals and visitors come together through their love of hunting and the outdoors, lasting memories are made. Whether hunting is a family tradition or a new adventure, working with a certified outfitter or guide from the Wyoming Outfitters and Guides Association (WYOGA) increases chances for a successful hunt. Besides a worthwhile hunting trip, many guides and outfitters offer fishing excursions, horse-pack trips, backcountry wilderness adventures and accommodations. Even non-hunters can work with these local experts to see wildlife and experience Wyoming’s breathtaking scenery. WY AM I HERE? “There’s really no place like Wyoming in the lower 48 when it comes to experiencing North American wildlife. The opportunity to observe robust populations of elk, bison, moose, bighorn sheep, wolves, grizzlies and other diverse fauna is a window into our wild past that makes me proud to be a Wyomingite.” — Josh Metten Naturalist, EcoTour Adventures, jhecotouradventures.com
