Live music in Sturgis THERE’S MORE THAN THE RALLY ROAR The usually quiet town of Sturgis has a big reputation. Nestled between Boulder Canyon and Vanocker Canyon, Sturgis is known for motorcycles, but also offers a rich military history, outdoor adventure, a unique Main Street and a variety of events throughout the year. The official dates for the 77th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally are August 4-13, 2017. Year-round, visitors can stop at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, commemorating the history of the Rally. The museum exhibits motorcycle industry history as well as a collection of bikes and memorabilia from “Hall of Fame” bikers. If you’re interested in military history, the Old Fort Meade Museum honors those who served in the days of the wild west and pays tribute to the town’s founding fathers. The museum is located on the original Fort Meade grounds and offers a true step back in time. Wine enthusiasts searching for fresh bubbly will enjoy Belle Joli Winery Sparkling House—a state-of-the-art facility featuring delicious sparkling wine creations, set in the picturesque Vanocker Canyon. Boulder Canyon is a beautiful drive that connects Sturgis to Deadwood. Stop along the way to play 18 holes at Boulder Canyon Golf Club at Apple Springs Resort. If you have the energy, venture north of Sturgis and hike to the top of Bear Butte for a view that encompasses three states. Long sacred to the Plains Indians, the landmark rising 4,426 feet above sea level is a Sturgis icon. Bear Butte State Park surrounds the area with a visitors center at the base of the mountain. Should you wish to shop, try Just For Looks Boutique on Main Street. Here you’ll find a unique selection of purses, clothing and gifts. Stroll on down the sidewalk to discover The Knuckle Saloon and Brewery, Loud American Road House and other dining establishments. Plan to include an annual event during your visit including the Volksmarch in late spring, Wild West Rodeo in June, Sturgis Camaro Rally in June, AMA Sanctioned Sturgis Supermoto Race in mid-September, and the Sturgis Mustang Rally over the Labor Day weekend
