Look around the region, and you'll think you're wearing rose-colored glasses. A metamorphic rock unique to this area that's over 1.6 billion years old and just about as hard as a diamond can be found around every corner. The hues of this rock are primarily variations of pink tones, giving it the nickname "rose stone" or "pink quartzite." Many historic buildings stand tall and strong because they are made with this durable stone. The stone is exposed in some areas, like Garretson's Split Rock Park.
