Ride back in time on Colorado’s scenic and historic railroads, many dating back to the state’s 1800s mining days. GEORGETOWN LOOP RAILROAD These tracks corkscrew upward in elevation on four bridges to connect two old mining towns. Start & End Points: Silver Plume and Georgetown RIO GRANDE SCENIC RAILROAD Three routes take riders past places still virtually inaccessible any other way. Start & End Points: La Veta/Alamosa/Fort Garland LEADVILLE, COLORADO & SOUTHERN RAILROAD Reach the tip-top of the Rockies along hairpin turns and views of the state’s tallest peaks. Start & End Points: Leadville and Climax CRIPPLE CREEK & VICTOR NARROW GAUGE RAILROAD This route provides photo ops of Pikes Peak and old mining camps. Start & End Points: Cripple Creek and Victor CUMBRES & TOLTEC SCENIC RAILROAD The train steams over the mountains along cliffs, into a narrow gorge and through evergreen and aspen forests. Start & End Points: Antonito, Colorado, and Chama, New Mexico ROYAL GORGE ROUTE RAILROAD Cars open to the walls of the Royal Gorge beside the fastflowing Arkansas River below. Start & End Point: Cañon City DURANGO & SILVERTON NARROW GAUGE RAILROAD This coal-fired, steam-powered train runs above the Animas River and through remote wilderness.
