It only makes sense that a city like san Francisco would have an airport with nearly as many options for dining and culture as the city itself. Fresh seafood while waiting for your flight? Check. An art museum? Yup. Yoga studios? You bet. Free WiFi? Of course! Here are a few great reasons why sFo deserves to be your favorite airport. GETTING TO AND FROM SFO Public Transit Take SFO’s free AirTrain from any terminal to the Garage G/ BART Station stop. A one-way BART ticket to downtown San Francisco costs $8.95 or $17.90 for a round trip (RT). Trains depart every 15-20 minutes. Arriving SFO passengers can buy round trip tickets online to San Francisco, Oakland or Berkeley for only $20. This ticket includes enough fare ($2.10) for RT SFO San Francisco riders to take an additional one-way ride to any station in San Francisco. Or you can upgrade the ticket at any BART Ticket Machine for a round trip to East Bay BART destinations or for additional trips anywhere on BART. For more information go to the Airport Connections page at www.bart.gov. Rental Cars Rental agencies are conveniently located on site. Rental operators offer a large fleet of eco-friendly options. Taxis depart from designated taxi zones located at the roadway center islands, on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level of all terminals. Uniformed taxi coordinators are stationed at the taxi zones from 7 a.m. – 1 a.m. to assist passengers with questions or concerns. The cost is usually $45-53 to downtown San Francisco including a $2 airport surcharge. Door-to-Door Vans provide service between SFO and specified locations in shared vans. Depending on the number of passengers, door-to-door vans may make multiple stops. Van service is available on a walk-up basis, but passengers should make reservations for service after 11 p.m. Pickup is on the Departures/Ticketing Level from the roadway center island at all terminals. Advance reservations are required to the airport. Airporters Privately operated scheduled buses provide service between SFO and Bay Area cities outside of San Francisco. They depart from the Center Island transportation zones on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level of the International Terminal and Domestic Terminals 2 and 3. Limousines must be prearranged; however, at the airport visitors can contact operators at free phones located at the Lodging, Transportation and Attraction Boards on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level. Transportation Network Companies (TnCs) Providing prearranged transportation between SFO and passenger-specified locations, TNCs include Lyft and UberX. Passengers arrange service online, typically using a smartphone app. Drivers use their personal, non-commercial vehicles. TNCs pick up passengers at terminal curbs on Departures/Ticketing Level of all terminals. Fares vary. Check out www.flysfo.com for more information. LOCAL DINING It would take months or even years to sample all the amazing restaurants in San Francisco, but if you miss a particular local institution during your visit, you might be able to try it at the airport. You can taste San Francisco’s famous sourdough from Boudin’s Bakery, enjoy an Irish coffee at Buena Vista Café, experience cuisine from celebrity chef’s like Cat Cora or Tyler Florence, or find artisanal foods at the Napa Farms Market – just to name a few of the “only in San Francisco” spots you’ll find in the airport. FINE ART San Francisco International Airport is the first in the country to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, so if you’ve got some time on your hands waiting for your flight to depart check out some of the exhibits scattered throughout the airport. Photography, sculpture and other art exhibits are loaned to SFO Museum from other museums and private collections, supplementing the collection of aviation-related materials found in the Aviation Museum and Library housed at the airport (flysfo.com/museum).
