NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE UNLEASH YOUR Wild Side Established in 1965, the Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge is more than 26,000 acres of wide-open wildlife adventure waiting to happen. Situated between the Fontenelle Dam and Green River, it’s an animal enthusiast’s playground. Bird watchers have virtually endless opportunities to see the native bird species that call the refuge home, like prairie falcons, peregrine falcons, owls, hawks and Canadian geese. Bald and golden eagles can also be caught by the photographer’s lens. And for anglers and hunters who come for sport, Seedskadee boasts world-class trout fishing and hunting for waterfowl and big game. The entire refuge is open for walking, and you can also take a number of roads and tour routes by car. As you tour the refuge, keep an eye out for historic early-ranching sites, as well as the many crossings of the Oregon Trail, Mormon Trail, California Trail and Pony Express Route. Make sure to stop by the Lombard Ferry Historical Site, about 28 miles west of Farson on HWY-28. HOW TO ACCESS IT: Head west on I-80 to the LaBarge State Highway 372 north, and go about 28 miles to the refuge headquarters turnoff.
