Load up your RV and hit the road with these themed trip ideas throughout the state. STATE PARKS ROAD TRIP ≈ approx. 500 miles Start your journey in the Wilkes-Barre area and drive to nearby Ricketts Glen State Park, where hiking trails pass by numerous waterfalls, including the 94-foot Ganoga Falls. Continue on to Worlds End State Park to take in sweeping valley views from Loyalsock Canyon Vista. Spend the night at Cherry Springs State Park, an International Dark Sky Park with ideal conditions for stargazing. In the morning, make your way to Kinzua Bridge State Park to walk across what was once the world’s longest, tallest railroad bridge. Continue on to Black Moshannon State Park, where you’ll find 20 miles of trails—including a boardwalk across a wildlife-filled bog—and then spend the night at the campground. The next day, continue to Gifford Pinchot State Park to rent a kayak for a morning of paddling the 340-acre lake. Then, visit Hickory Run State Park for 44 miles of trails and to see Boulder Field, a National Natural Landmark. HISTORIC CASTLES ROAD TRIP ≈ approx. 430 miles Begin in the Philadelphia area and drive to nearby Bryn Athyn, where you can take the Highlights Tour of Glencairn Museum to see its stunning Great Hall, Upper Hall, and Tower. In Doylestown, go on a guided one-hour tour of Fonthill Castle, former home of ceramicist Henry Mercer, boasting 44 rooms, 18 fireplaces, and handcrafted ceramic tiles. Spend the night in East Stroudsburg at Delaware Water Gap/Pocono Mountain KOA, where some RV sites have paved patios around a fire pit. In the morning, drive to Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford, where interpretive tours take you through the 1886 mansion and its surrounding gardens. Continue on to Gettysburg National Military Park, where you can see the castle-like monument at Little Round Top—the site of a Civil War conflict during the Battle of Gettysburg. Stay overnight at nearby Gettysburg Farm RV Campground. Make your way back to the Philadelphia area, but take a detour on the way to stop at the English-style Stokesay Castle in Reading for hearty shepherd’s pie and burgers at the The Knight’s Pub.
