Step inside these six unique dwellings
The Barn, The Waterford Inne
Waterford, Maine

Grand in size yet delicate in design, the newly renovated Barn at The Waterford Inne naturally draws guests in with cozy corners and thoughtful spaces. Locally grown flower arrangements sit atop vintage tables while string lights and candles warm the space. “It feels like a cathedral for social indulgence,” says innkeeper Kember Vanderblue. The Barn provides a meeting place for guests to gather and make friendships over vintage board games and libations crafted with garden herbs and local spirits. “The Barn is a canvas onto which the bar and the guests paint a new picture every evening.” More on page 46.

Porch, Amelia Island Williams House

Fernandina Beach, Florida
In quintessential Southern fashion, history greets you at the front door of Amelia Island Williams House. Designed by New York architect Robert Sands Schuyler, this spectacular two-story porch was added in 1858 to overlook the mansion’s lush gardens. Legend has it, during construction an observer noted the porch’s perfection, and Schuyler commented that “only God could design something perfect” and promptly requested the builder add an imperfection. “He instructed that one of the second-floor posts be turned upside down,” says owner Veronica Byrnes. “It’s still that way today.” More on page 38.

Library, Gideon Ridge Inn

Blowing Rock, North Carolina
Stories of the past and present convene in the Library at Gideon Ridge Inn. Equal parts elegant and cozy, this space envelops guests in High Country comfort and vintage books. The library’s grand stone fireplace welcomes warm conversation as its snug sitting areas insist upon peaceful afternoon reads. Guests are invited to imbibe a craft cocktail while perusing the shelves for a local book of prose or poetry and taking in the sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. More on page 59.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Eclectic in style, romantic in stature, and iconic in status, this dignified space isn’t to be missed when visiting the enchanting 18th-century mansion. Within its brightly colored walls, a handmade archway, intricate ceiling, and delicate stained glass window speak to the refined elegance of its 1912 construction, while contemporary touches tell the tales of New Orleans today.
