ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICTS
Hubs of culture and creativity in Maryland are certified by the Maryland State Arts Council as “Arts & Entertainment Districts.” In these areas, expect to be entertained by exceptional theater, art, music, dining and shopping options.
Western Maryland
While exploring time-honored traditions that have grown up around the Appalachian Mountains, you can admire the craftsmanship of artisans based in Frostburg or Grantsville, or visit the galleries and museums of Cumberland, and enjoy bluegrass and gospel music in Hagerstown.
Capital Region
Wheaton, Bethesda and Silver Spring give Montgomery County a trio of Arts & Entertainment Districts renowned for beautiful gardens, lively theater and a dynamic nightlife. Downtown Frederick delivers performing arts ranging from Shakespeare to improv. Artistic endeavors in the Gateway district encompass Mount Rainier, Brentwood, North Brentwood and Hyattsville.
Central Maryland
Baltimore City is big enough for three Arts & Entertainment Districts: Bromo Tower, Highlandtown and Station North, which feature intimate theaters, galleries and an urban landscape enhanced by murals and sculptures. Maryland’s capital city of Annapolis mingles music, dance, food and visual arts. The waterfront town of Havre de Grace has antiques shops and arts festivals, while Bel Air brings cultural and recreational activities home to surrounding communities.
Eastern Shore
