CBD & THE FRENCH QUARTER GARDEN DISTRICT/UPTOWN METROPOLITAN NEW ORLEANS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION New Orleans has a modern network of highways and roads. Parking, however, is at a premium, particularly in the French Quarter. Taxis and public transportation can take you to points not within walking distance. TAXIS Rates are $3.50 plus $2 per mile (or 30¢ per 1/8 mile) thereafter. During peak visitor times or special events, taxi rates may increase but will be posted. A fixed rate of $36 (two people) is charged from the airport to most areas of New Orleans; for parties of more than two, the fare is $15 per person. RATES SUBJECT TO CHANGE. BUS Bus routes extend to almost every corner of the city, and the fare is $1.25 (plus 25¢ per transfer). Express buses cost $1.50. FERRY The Algiers/Canal Street Ferry is a toll ferry that takes pedestrians and automobiles from the foot of Canal Street to Algiers Point several times each day. STREETCAR Streetcar fares are $1.25 each way plus 25¢ per transfer. Jazzy Pass is available for $3, three-day Jazzy Passes for $12 and monthly TransPasses for $55.
