EXPLORE LGBTQ-FRIENDLY ST. PETE/CLEARWATER

St. Pete/Clearwater boasts a growing number of LGBTQ+ residents and visitors. Throughout the year, and not only in June, rainbow flags can be seen from Gulf to Bay. Home to St. Pete Pride, the largest pride parade and festival in the Southeast, St. Pete is the LGBTQ+ hub along Florida’s west coast. The city has also maintained a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign’s annual Municipal Equality Index for eight years running.

ST. PETE PRIDE

If Speedos and sun are your thing, Treasure Island’s Sunset Beach is the official gay beach of the region while Pass-a-Grille Beach is a hidden LGBTQ+ gem.

For drinks and entertainment, Cocktail St. Pete and Punky’s Bar & Grille offer something for everyone while Enigma in St. Pete, Quench Lounge in Largo, and Blur in Dunedin are popular among gay men. Each venue offers a mix of special events, fundraiser parties, theme nights, music, and plenty of drag; from drag bingo to RuPaul watch parties.

SUNSET BEACH

If you’re craving something a bit more tantalizing, catch the Femmes and Follies Burlesque Show at The Saint Speakeasy during Unworthy Wednesday. There are also several production companies that host pop-up shows throughout St. Pete/Clearwater, including Sheba Queen of the Night Entertainment and Tampa Bay Burlesque. Visit their Facebook pages for more info.

Accommodations throughout St. Pete/Clearwater are LGBTQ-welcoming, but if looking for “family,” reserve a room at the Postcard Inn in St. Pete Beach, the Hollander Hotel or Avalon in Downtown St. Pete, the Coconut Inn in Pass-a-Grille, or The Historic Peninsula Inn in Gulfport.

PUNKY’S BAR & GRILLE

LGBTQ-owned businesses are also plentiful, especially in St Petersburg. Pick out home décor treasures at ZaZoo’d, buy Mexican metal wall art at Graphi-ko, grab swim trunks at Atlas Body + Home, and book a massage with St. Pete Massage Therapy. The Metro LGBTQ Welcome Center and sister refreshment store, Inclusivitea, feature local LGBTQ+ art and pride paraphernalia, as does Gulfport Beach Bazaar.

INCLUSIVITEA

Support LGBTQ-owned and/or operated restaurants while in town. Dine at LINGR in St. Petersburg for Nordic and Asian-inspired food. Enjoy brunch and entertainment at the new Salty Nun on Central Avenue. Study the menu at The Library in South St. Pete. Head to the Honu in Dunedin for Polynesian cuisine. Pleasure that sweet tooth with dessert at Daddies Donuts and Delites or a waffle cone at Let It Be Ice Cream in Gulfport.
