PERFORMING ARTS AT BROADWAY THEATER
Built in 1948, the Broadway Theater is nestled in downtown Rock Springs and hosts more than 50 performances a year, from musicals and comedy shows to dramatic plays.
MURALS AROUND TOWN
Larger-than-life murals abound in downtown Rock Springs. Seek them out and prepare to be amazed by these lively creations.
• Big Country: Rock Springs’ first mural depicts iconic landmarks like Killpecker Sand Dunes and Boar’s Tusk.
• Disarming: Rose Klein’s brilliant piece celebrates southwest Wyoming’s Chinese immigrant community.
• Rock Springs: A warm welcome to the city, this mural was completed by more than 20 youth volunteers and features important aspects of the community.
• Freedom: Birds soar and horses leap in this vivid, swirling scene by Chad Bolsinger.
• Pronghorn: Coyotes, snakes, rabbits and birds painted by Wyoming-based Dan Toro pay homage to Western wildlife.
• Lioness: A celebration of women’s suffrage, “Lioness” showcases civil-rights leaders like Anna Julia Cooper and Ida B. Wells.
• Kickin’ It in Downtown Rock Springs: Large cowboy boots tell the region’s story through the lens of five local artists.
• A Tribute to Wyoming: The small mural illustrates notable Wyoming flora and fauna, like the American bison.
• Selfie Spots: Snap a selfie with Wyoming’s state butterfly or the “Welcome to Rock Springs, WY” buffalo.
BRONZE SCULPTURES & PUBLIC ART
Around nearly every corner you’ll find towering bronze sculptures throughout Rock Springs. Take a self-guided tour to visit some of the area’s most notable public-art displays.
• Antelope: A herd of antelope is displayed at exit 102 on I-80, greeting roadtrippers as they make their way to Rock Springs.
• High Desert Elk: Appropriately situated on Elk Street, the desert beast appears to be gazing at the sun.
• Saluting the Flag: Eight small children stand with their hands over their hearts at the intersection of Gateway Boulevard and Dewar Drive.
• Mustang: Located on the Western Wyoming Community College campus, this bucking bronze horse captures the spirit of the region’s wild herd.
• Pride, Strength, Perseverance: The Spirit of Western: See two mustangs thunder across the plains at Western Wyoming Community College.
• Busts of Historical Figures: Meet Archibald Blair, Rock Springs’ first citizen, and Grenville Dodge, chief engineer of the Union Pacific railroad.
LOCAL ART GALLERIES
Located in the pedestrian underpass near the yellow Union Pacific caboose, Art Underground Gallery in Rock Springs houses a robust collection of murals of various mediums and themes by the area’s accomplished and up-and-coming artists.
A cultural oasis, the Community Fine Arts Center features work by legendary American painters like Norman Rockwell, Elliott Orr and Raphael Soyer as well as pieces from local and regional artists. The gallery also hosts touring exhibitions and performing-arts programs.
Opened in downtown Rock Springs in 2021, Kneeland Fine Art highlights Wyoming’s natural beauty through original paintings, photography and more.
