With its well-established network of airports, highways, buses and trains, getting around is simple, making it easy to explore all the adventures this diverse state has to offer.
Airports
Colorado is well connected with the rest of the U.S. and major international destinations.
Denver International Airport (DEN), a major hub for U.S. carriers, is centrally located, making it a prime gateway for both domestic and international travel. It offers nonstop flights to more than 200 destinations, including major cities like London (Heathrow), Frankfurt, Paris, Dublin, Toronto, Montreal, Mexico City and Tokyo. Once you arrive, getting to downtown Denver is a breeze, with convenient commuter rail connections via the RTD A Line.

Trains
In addition to historic and scenic railroads (see page 36), Colorado offers modern and convenient train travel. Amtrak’s California Zephyr line makes the trip from Chicago to Emeryville, California. On its way, it makes a stop in Colorado and passes through Fort Morgan, Denver, Fraser, Granby, Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. The Southwest Chief goes from Chicago to Los Angeles, with Colorado stops in Lamar, La Junta and Trinidad. The Winter Park Express ski train ferries skiers and snowboarders from Denver’s Union Station right to the base area of Winter Park Resort, December through March. The luxurious Rocky Mountaineer's Rockies to the Red Rocks line stops in Denver, Glenwood Springs, and Moab and Salt Lake City (Utah).
Public Transit
Several options exist for travel between Colorado’s cities. RTD, Denver’s public transportation network, is easy and inexpensive, and you can get pretty much anywhere in Denver and the surrounding area by light rail or bus. Bustang provides bus service statewide to connect transit systems throughout Colorado. Explore rural Colorado on the Outrider service, which goes beyond the Bustang routes to more off-the-beaten-path locations. Access to mountain resorts and other destinations is easy with shuttle services and buses, and many towns also have free public buses to get around and go between other towns.

Rental Cars & Ride/Bike-Sharing
Rental cars can be picked up at all airports. All road signs will reference miles. Although not required, drivers are advised to check with their rental company for guidance on what type of permit is needed before the trip. For road conditions, visit CoTrip.org (or call 511 when in Colorado).
Ride-sharing apps Uber and Lyft are popular throughout the state. Many cities and towns have bike-sharing options. For a full list, visit Colorado.com/Carless.
