There are many ways to get to and around Fairfax County. Planes Fairfax County sits between Washington Dulles International (IAD) and Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA), with Baltimore/ Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI) only 45 miles away. Trains Amtrak runs between Union Station in Washington, DC and major eastern cities. The AutoTrain is available from Lorton and Virginia Railway Express (VRE) runs from Manassas and Fredericksburg to Union Station, with stops in Fairfax County. Metrorail & Metrobus There are 14 Metrorail stations in Fairfax County, including one at Washington Dulles International Airport. Many stations offer parking and bike racks. Metrobus operates routes through the county, as well as pickup at Metrorail stations. Buses The Fairfax Connector serves many Metrorail stations and attractions, including George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Tysons Corner Center, Reston Town Center and Springfield Town Center. Bikes There are more than 500 miles of bike trails here! Explore quiet, tree-lined streets and trails using Fairfax County’s interactive map of routes. Bike rentals are available at local shops or at one of the 50+ Capital Bikeshare stations in the county. Automobiles Four major interstates (I-66, I-95, I-395 and I-495) run through the area, with parking readily available.
