Chicago’s McCormick Place convention center district is burgeoning, thanks to exciting new developments within The Collection at McCormick Square which include hotels that have been eagerly anticipated by meeting and event planners looking to expand their options in Chicago.
THE COLLECTION AT MCCORMICK SQUARE
The Collection at McCormick Square is an interconnected complex that includes the McCormick Place convention center (featuring 600,000 square feet of meeting room space, including ballrooms and theaters), the 10,000-seat Wintrust Arena, the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place and the Marriott Marquis Chicago, all connected via enclosed skybridges. In summer 2018, the first-ever, tri-brand Hiltons at McCormick Place (which combines a Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites) joined the complex, bringing 466 hotel rooms to McCormick Place. The Hiltons at McCormick Place is connected to McCormick Place via a skybridge to the West Building, and features 6,600 square feet of meeting space.
MCCORMICK PLACE
As the largest convention center in North America, McCormick Place offers a staggering 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space and offsets 100 percent of its electricity usage with clean, affordable wind energy. The entire McCormick Place campus is connected by dramatic pedestrian promenades and skybridges, and offers visitor amenities that include dining and service shops. It’s made up of multiple state-of-the-art buildings: the Lakeside Center, the connected South and North Buildings, and the West Building, which is LEED Certified and features one of the largest working rooftop gardens in the U.S.
WINTRUST ARENA
Opened in fall 2017, the 10,000-seat arena serves as a general session hall for large business meetings or closing events for conventions, as well as a venue for concerts, sporting events and other major special events. Wintrust Arena is home to the DePaul University Blue Demons men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as the Chicago Sky WNBA team.
MARRIOTT MARQUIS CHICAGO
Part of McCormick Square’s impressive hotel inventory is Marriott Marquis Chicago, which opened in fall 2017. The stunning 40-story, 1,205-room hotel features more than 90,000 square feet of meeting space, including two 25,000-square-foot ballrooms. In addition, the hotel offers 63 event spaces and 48 breakout rooms. Marriott Red Coat Event Associates ensure that your meeting or event runs smoothly from beginning to end. A convenient pedestrian skybridge links the Marriott Marquis to the McCormick Place West Building and the next-door Wintrust Arena.
HYATT REGENCY MCCORMICK PLACE
The on-site Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, a AAA Four-Diamond hotel with 1,258 guest rooms, underwent a major expansion and renovation, providing new guest rooms, meeting space and public area experiences. Four food and beverage concepts inspired by the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition opened in late spring 2017.
