BEST KNOWN FOR Dutch Hollow Wine Cellars (built in 1800), Dunbar is just west of Charleston on I-64 and abuts the new $18 million Shawnee Sports Complex. This friendly city hosts some of the best-kept secrets of the Kanawha Valley if you love outdoor recreation and small-town celebrations.
The Wine Cellar boasts an 18-hole frisbee golf course and nearby Anderson Lake provides year-round fishing for trout and large-mouth bass, plus opportunities for picnicking and hiking. Dunbar Landing is a popular mooring spot on the Kanawha River if visiting by boat, and it’s a short walk to the downtown area. Don’t miss lunch or dinner at Los Agaves, a popular Mexican hangout.

Dunbar is proud to host National Kids to Parks Day in June and a fall festival with a 10K race. Every February since 1974, the annual Critter Dinner features cooks preparing anything from local groundhog to kangaroo.
