Who doesn't love strolling around an adorable downtown filled with unique shops, delicious cafes, and the sounds of live music rolling out of bustling pubs and breweries? From our largest city down to our small rural towns, there are many things our communities have in common, one of them being a great downtown! DOWNTOWN SIOUX FALLS Downtown Sioux Falls has it ALL! Historical architecture, public art, unforgettable events, shopping, dining, breweries, parks, a public trolley, and more collide to make this downtown destination popular. If you're around on the first Friday evening of the month, be sure to stroll around and take it all in. You'll find everything from art receptions, live music, retail deals, food & drink specials, and more! SMALL TOWNS, GREAT DOWNTOWNS Many of our communities have less than 15,000 people calling them home, but that doesn't stop them from having downtowns we love. Cities like Mitchell, Madison, and Vermillion (a few of our college towns) have the best shopping and dining options. Dell Rapids boasts a beautiful historic movie theatre that's still in operation today. Yankton's Meridian District has a two-story Meridian Pedestrian Bridge over the Missouri River that you absolutely must walk or bike if you get the chance. CHURCH ARCHITECTURE The Cathedral of St. Joseph, commonly known as the Sioux Falls Cathedral, is a beautiful Catholic church built in 1919 atop one of the tallest hills in the city. Its grand pillars and stained glass windows are a sight to be seen. Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel is tucked right between Sacred Heart Monastery and Mount Marty University, also atop its city's most prominent hill. Built primarily out of sandstone in 1950, this fantastic example of Gothic architecture is home to the Yankton Benedictine Sisters. Both churches offer guided tours. Make sure you schedule those in advance. If you want to just pop in and take a look around, feel free! Be careful not to interrupt a mass or service of some kind!
