Steeped in history, Louisiana’s dance halls have long been spirited hubs for Cajun and zydeco music. Before you join the fun, brush up on these tips and etiquette.
• Wear closed-toe shoes suitable for dancing.
• Stay in the center of the floor (an imaginary rectangle) for line dancing and leave the space around it for those who want to two-step. The outermost perimeter is for fast dancing, so watch out.
• The “line of dance” moves counterclockwise around the floor.
• Step away from the floor if you want to chat or stop dancing.
• It’s customary to accept a first dance invitation from someone, but OK to say no to a second.
