CRAFT BEER
The LoCo Ale Trail’s 30+ breweries offer a mix of settings few regions can match: trendy urban taprooms, Piedmont farm beer gardens and mountaintop tasting rooms. Several breweries use local fruit, grain and yeast, producing what’s been called “Land Beer.”
CIDERS
Hard on the heels of Loudoun’s beer revolution comes a raft of craft cideries turning Loudoun apples into liquid gold. Fruit-forward Henway Hard Cider Company in Bluemont, gluten-free Corcoran Cidery in Waterford and Wild Hare Cider in Leesburg, where they dry age cider for a year, are just a few options for standout cider.
SPIRITS
Loudoun’s first distillery since Prohibition when it opened in 2009, Catoctin Creek Distillery produces hand-crafted brandy, gin and award-winning organic rye. Mt. Defiance Cidery & Distillery makes “lost spirits” like absinthe; plus bourbon, whiskey, rum and more. Flying Ace Distillery & Brewery does a cask-strength Blended Bourbon, a Silver Rum great in cocktails and a White Dog three-grain whiskey made from heirloom corn farmed onsite.
