Circle View Guest Ranch

From the rugged peaks and plains of the west to the vibrant cities in the east, discover two wildly different (but equally enticing) ways to experience South Dakota.

Old Style Saloon No. 10

WONDROUS & WILD

Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo

See real-life cowboys and cowgirls in action during one of the last great traditions of the American West. The annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup is more than a dust-flying spectacle; it’s key to keeping the park’s bison herd healthy and thriving. Scan to watch a five-part video series that takes you inside the roundup.

With deep ranching roots and a proud agricultural heritage, the cowboy spirit is still very much alive in western South Dakota. Head to the Black Hills & Badlands to stay on a working ranch, catch a local rodeo and live the cowboy life—if only for a weekend.

At Circle View Guest Ranch, a 2,800-acre cattle ranch near Badlands National Park, guests can enjoy horseback rides with panoramic views or tag along on ranch chores, such as bottle-feeding calves and gathering fresh eggs. Blue Bell Lodge in Custer offers rustic log cabins, trail rides and chuckwagon cookouts.

Dress the part with Western boots and apparel from Wall Drug Store, then break them in at Historic Deadwood’s legendary entertainment spots. Dance like it’s 1876 at Old Style Saloon No. 10, where rough-and-tumble outlaws and prospectors once shared drinks and stories. Explore a bawdier side of history at The Brothel Deadwood.

Levitt at the Falls, Sioux Falls

Don’t miss a South Dakota rodeo! The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo in Rapid City features livestock exhibitions, horse events and rodeo competitions, plus concerts and a beer festival.

Head east to follow Interstate 29 through Sioux Falls, Brookings and Watertown. All along South Dakota’s "Cultural Corridor," art and creativity take center stage, with impressive museum collections, award-winning restaurants and thriving downtowns.

See one of Elvis Presley’s acoustic guitars at the National Music Museum in Vermillion, or explore quilled and beaded moccasins, dolls and other treasures made by the Dakota, Nakota and Lakota at the South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings. At the Redlin Art Center in Watertown, step into the Comforts of Home Cabin, a life-size recreation of one of Terry Redlin’s beloved paintings.

In downtown Sioux Falls, bring the kids to learn something new at the Kirby Science Discovery Center at Washington Pavilion, or wander the SculptureWalk®, the world’s largest annual exhibit of public sculptures. Bring a piece of South Dakota home from one of the indie shops and art galleries along Phillips Avenue.

Eastern South Dakota’s dining scene strikes a perfect balance between homegrown classics and modern flavors. Harvester Kitchen by Bryan in Sioux Falls showcases seasonal ingredients—think Madeira-glazed sea scallops with asparagus suds. Pheasant Restaurant & Lounge in Brookings has been serving up South Dakota specialties since 1949, like bison filet mignon with wojapi sauce. In Aberdeen, Three22 Kitchen + Cocktails wows diners with clever combinations such as fully loaded Cajun walleye street tacos.

LOCAL MEETS GLOBAL

Bokujō Ramen | Rapid City

Food Network star Justin Warner and his wife, Brooke Sweeten, opened Bokujō Ramen with South Dakota’s cattle-country flavors in mind. Their signature bison bone ramen features melt-in-your-mouth brisket from Wild Idea Buffalo in Hermosa.

BibiSol | Sioux Falls

Sample sopas, tostadas and other tasty dishes made with local ingredients and ancient Mesoamerican methods at BibiSol. Marcela Salas, a 2025 James Beard Award semifinalist for Emerging Chef, co-founded the restaurant as a tribute to her family's matriarchal lineage and Mexican Indigenous heritage.

Meet the chefs and explore more farm-to-fork dining.
