Tree-lined shores give way to glass and steel urban spires along the waterways of Central Maryland. Explore waterfront beaches and parks. Meander the cozy streets of historic riverside Havre de Grace. Walk the unbroken waterfront promenade along Baltimore from the hopping pubs and restaurants of Canton, through the world-famous harbor, hip and happening Federal Hill, and on to the luxurious marina views of the Ritz-Carlton residences. About a half hour’s drive south is the state capital of Annapolis with its own harbor at the eastern end of Main Street, lined with shops, restaurants and landmarks, including the U.S. Naval Academy.
Get Away to Our Green Side
The geographic diversity of Central Maryland quickly becomes apparent when driving out of Baltimore, as urban skyline gives way to tree-lined, single-lane roads within minutes. Just north in Baltimore County is horse country, with rolling hills neatly sectioned off by white fencing. To the west, Carroll County, located in the Piedmont Plateau area, offers rows of crops, farmers’ markets and a warm, laidback country style. Along the I-95 corridor in Harford County, hikers can explore rocky overlooks carved out by the Gunpowder River, a prime fly-fishing destination.

It goes without saying you’ll find world-class dining in the cities of Central Maryland; indeed, a restaurant scene boom has been underway with local chefs rising to national prominence, but hidden gems also abound in surrounding areas.
1 Eat Like a Local on the Middle River and Essex Waterfront
These quiet, bayfront communities are just 10 miles east of Baltimore, but feel like another world. Feast on a pile of crabs outside at the New Sue Island Grill and Crabhouse, or sit on the deck at Island View Waterfront Café, enjoying the bay breeze, view of Hawk’s Cove and excellent coddies, crab cakes and steamed mussels, while ospreys fly across the horizon.
2 Sample World- Class Asian Cuisine in Ellicott City
With the largest Korean population in Maryland, Howard County’s Ellicott City has delighted food fans with the availability of authentic Korean dishes. Shin Chon’s barbecue and extravagant side dishes have garnered national recognition, and fans of the singular combination of sweet, spicy and crispy that defines Korean fried chicken regularly flock to Bonchon.

The Stanton Community Center
