COAST & SEA VILLAGES

2021-09-04 00:14:51

On the western edge of Sonoma County, more than 55 miles of dramatic Pacific coast make for sweeping ocean views and spectacular sunset viewing. Quiet villages and towns dot the coastline from Bodega Bay on the southernmost point to The Sea Ranch on the northernmost point. This region makes for a beautiful scenic drive along Highway 1 or an ideal enclave for a couple’s getaway. “The North Coast is a microcosm of all that Sonoma County is, with the unique hallmark of travel that is off the beaten path. From resilient Redwoods dipped in wisps of fog that slope into the swell of our coastal prairies and dramatic Pacific ocean, to the world renowned architecture of The Sea Ranch, CA, the north coast is the linchpin of environmental idealism and connection to place. It is my home.” -Margaret Lindgren, Unbeaten Path Tours & Yoga COAST & SEA VILLAGES Cities & Towns Starting at the southern end of Sonoma County’s coast, the picturesque fishing town of Bodega Bay is the most lively of the small sea villages of Sonoma County and brings out the adventurer in each of us. Catch Dungeness crab on a boat charter, go bird watching at Doran Regional Park or hike along the bay’s expansive coastline. Whatever adventure you choose, the backdrop will be beautiful. About 10 miles north, the peaceful town of Jenner is the perfect place to connect with nature. This is where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean and the Sonoma Coast State Park offers breathtaking scenery. Even more remote, Timber Cove (15 miles north of Jenner) is the ultimate romantic getaway spot. Relax at the intimate 46-room Timber Cove Resort or sleep under the stars at Ocean Cove Campground. Just north of Timber Cove, Salt Point State Park offers 20 miles of hiking trails and panoramic views of the rugged Pacific coast. Near the northern end of Sonoma County’s coastline is The Sea Ranch, a tiny, environmentally planned private community stretching 10 miles long. Inland, the Sea Ranch Chapel is a sight to behold. This whimsical architectural gem, which resembles a bird taking flight or a cresting wave from the outside, is even more impressive on the inside.
