HISTORIC MUSIC & LEGENDARY TASTES
This region feeds the soul and the senses, evoking the sounds and musical sensations of Kentucky. Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass Music, invented the genre here in the rolling hills of Rosine. W.C. Handy, the Father of the Blues, lived and nurtured his appreciation for this African-American song form for nearly a decade in Henderson.

FOOD FOR THE SOUL AND THE SENSES.
The legacies of both are celebrated at the Rosine Barn Jamboree, the International Bluegrass Music Museum, the W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival, and countless other gatherings and impromptu jam sessions throughout the region.
It is a heritage best served with barbecue and here, in the BBQ Capital of the World, that means mutton, chicken, pork – and more mutton. Even before Owensborough (later, Owensboro) was incorporated as a town in 1817, there was a tradition of simmering barbecue over an open pit. Yeah. It’s that good.
This part of Kentucky hangs its hat on barbecue – and incredible barbecue it is – but there’s plenty more to sink your teeth into

1.BURGOO: Bur who? Known as Kentucky’s most famous stew, it consists of at least three different meats (usually pork, beef and chicken, although you’ll find veal or lamb, too) and a mixture of potatoes, corn, carrots, onion, celery, lima beans – basically, whatever you can throw into the pot.
2.POTATO SALAD: Variations abound, but here there’s no better way to spice up your spuds. Mayo, vinegar, celery, onion, salt, pepper (and perhaps a little mustard) is the recipe of choice.
3.BBQ MUTTON: Created by early pioneers as a way to take advantage of the area’s large sheep population, mutton is slow-cooked over hickory wood coals for up to 18 hours to create a tender meat-lover’s treat.
4.COLESLAW: Shredded cabbage is a given, but what’s mixed in with it can differ from there. Some swear by mayonnaise, while others prefer a vinegar base. But why choose? Many restaurants here serve up both.
5.PEACH COBBLER: With peach orchards and strawberry patches aplenty, these parts are known for this warm-from-the-oven baked goodie that offers the taste (and comfort!) of home.
